Acne Scar Removal
When any of the stubborn acne leaves ugly and even defacing scars behind, acne scar removal can bring you an improvement you want. Over the times, cosmetic surgeons have used different methods to tackle such atrocious acne scars and the techniques of acne scar removal have developed markedly. Not so recent, the dermabrasion was considered to be a surefire method. This meant removing the scarred topmost dermal layer through something called a sanding procedure. Clearly, this method was quite painful and the surgeons often used local anesthesia while performing that on the patients. The skin would appear raw and be sorely tender for quite a while after the procedure, too. New, unscarred skin would take some months to grow back after dermabrasion.
Other acne scar removal techniques:
There are some specific dermatological techniques for minimizing acne scars those are to be determined by a surgeon based on some criteria such as:
• Patient’s age, overall health, and any relevant history
• The asperity of the acne scars
• The type of scars
• Patient’s tolerance for specific medicines, methods, or therapies
• Patient’s own opinion and/or preference
Though acne oftentimes considered as a chronic condition, even if it ends only during teenage, acne can leave scar that requires years to heal. Acne scar typically appear like "ice pick" pit scar or craterlike scar. Although proper remedy for acne might help minimizing the scarring, various dermatological techniques might help further minimizing any acne scars that include the following:
Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion might be used for minimizing the small scars, minor skin surface abnormalities, surgical marks, and acne scars. As the name says, dermabrasion includes taking off the top dermal layers with some electrical device that would abrade the skin. As the skin starts healing from the procedure, the surface then starts appearing smoother and energized.
Chemical peels
These are often used for minimizing the sun-damaged skin, irregular pigmentation, and treating the scars those are superficial. The top layer of skin is taken off with some application of special chemicals onto the skin. When the top layer of the skin is removed, the skin starts regenerating and finally gets improved in its look.
Collagen injections
A special type of collagen, which is taken from purified bovine (cow) collagen, is injected underneath the skin for replacing the body's natural collagens which has been lost in acne scarring. Injection of the collagen is usually used to treat creases, scars, and ugly facial wrinkles.
Laser resurfacing
This is another advanced technique for acne scar removal. Laser resurfacing applies high-energy beam of laser that burns away the damaged skin. Laser resurfacing might be used for minimizing wrinkles and to iron up the acne scars.
Punch grafts
Punch grafts are nothing but small skin grafts those are used for replacing acne scarred skin. In this procedure, a hole is punctured into the skin for removing the acne scar that would be then replaced using unscarred skin (often taken from the non-visible areas of the body such from the backside of the earlobe). Punch grafts helps treating deep acne scars.
Autologous fat transfer
An autologous fat transfer is using fats that are taken from some other sites of patient’s own body and they are injected into patient’s skin. The fats are placed underneath the surface of the skin for elevating depressed scars. This technique is used for correcting deep contour faults those are caused due to scarring from nodulocystic acne. Since the fats are reabsorbed into the skin within some months, there might be a need for the entire procedure to be repeated.
